A robust external ski/walk mechanism that allows for single-handed ski and walk functionality. This dual-purpose mechanism automatically opens the boot cuff for fast and easy transitions. Found on Backland Ultimate the mechanism also offers 13° and 15° of forward lean adjustment.

This is a lean and mean boot that’s incredibly light and offers a whopping 80° of cuff rotation. It weighs in at just 775g a boot, making it the lightest touring boot in the Atomic line-up. The robust Free/Lock 3.0 external ski/walk mechanism allows for fast and easy transitions as well as optimized forward lean adjustment between 13° and 15°. When combined with the smooth natural movement of the Frictionless Pivot, it feels like a hiking boot. Bonus? A washable, breathable Platinum Speed liner that’s comfy and easy to clean. This is the ultimate uphill tool.
Compatibility
Backland boots are only compatible with TLT-style touring bindings that use traditional pins at both the toe and the heel. Backland boots are not compatible with hybrid touring bindings, such as Shift MNC 10 & 13.
